Magdalene Odundo – Transition II – New Work in Glass.

Until Saturday 15th at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland

Kenya-born Magdalene Odundo is known as one of Britain’s leading artists working in ceramics. In recent years she has explored the potential of glass within her artistic practice, culminating with the installation Transition II, to be shown, for the first time, at National Glass Centre. The installation of one thousand handmade glass forms was developed with the support of James Maskrey, an artist specialising in hot glass and produced in association with Berengo Studio in Murano and Devereux and Huskie Glassworks in Wiltshire. It combines inspiration taken from Ancient Egyptian ear studs, the life sustaining role of the River Nile and the Op Art of Bridget Riley
